For Miranda, being a Roma means taking care of each other, maintaining relationship within the community, appreciating her own culture, values, and traditions. She comes from the ‘Kale’ Roma group in Finland where women wear traditional clothes, “which distinguishes them clearly from non-Roma women, and, therefore, discrimination is easy” against them.
Miranda Voulusranta works for the National Finnish Roma Forum. The Forum represents Roma with regards to issues concerning fundamental human and social rights. It has an important role in helping non-governmental organizations in their activities, strengthening cooperation and networking. She is also Vice-Chairman of the European Roma and Travellers Forum. Miranda is also a teacher of Romani language and history. When she has to describe herself she usually says she is a teacher, an adviser, and a mother.
